Well OK then! - 28/03/03
Peter O’Toole originally decided he would not accept an honouray Oscar but later changed his mind and was at the ceremony to pick up his award.
The seven times Oscar nominated actor who has never won was now finally honoured. "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride my foot," O’Toole said, clutching his honorary Oscar statue.
"I have my very own Oscar now to be with me until death us do part." He graciously accepted his honor and thanked the country that gave him so many of the roles for which he is remembered.
"I think of the United States and of the loves and friendships I’ve known here for more than half a century and of how much the nation has given to me both personally, privately and professionally," O’Toole said. "I am deeply thankful. And now, at this last, you have given me this delightful shock."
Still up for it! - 04/02/03
Peter O Toole has gracefully refused to accept an Honorary Oscar by claiming that he is still in the running to win a real one thanks very much!.
Peter has been nominated several times for an Oscar, and although he is approaching his 71st year, he is still an actor that is a force to be reckoned with and has over 52 films under his belt.
His humorous response is a typical one for Peter, and he has asked officials if they would kindly mind keeping the offer open for him, and if he hasn’t won an award outright by the time he is 80, then he might consider it.!
Is Peter O’Toole the next Dumbledore? - 19/11/02
It has been rumoured that Peter O Toole is also in the running to play Professor Dumbldore in the third instalment of Harry Potter. The role of the Hogwarts headmaster is up in the air now following the death of the much respected Richard Harris.
There have been so much speculation about who will take over this role that it rather seems as though if you are a distinguished male actor ’of a certain age’ with twinkly eyes then you too could be considered!
