Peter O'Toole
- Profession: Actor
- Place/Date of Birth: 02 August 2020
First appearing on television in 1954 and the big screen in ’59 O’Toole burst in to the public conciousness in 1962, playing T.E Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia, a role that earned him a Best Actor Oscar nomination. Although he has since been nominated for the statue six times he has yet to win. The Academy presented O’Toole with an honorary award which he initially refused as he still wished to ’win the lovely bugger outright’.
Previously appearing in critically acclaimed films Becket, The Lion in Winter, Murphy’s War, The Last Emporer, and, more recently, Troy and Venus, he has also famously appeared on stage in Juno and the Paycock, Waiting for Godot and Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell. O’Toole recently took a rare television outing too, appearing in the TV series Casanova alongside David Tennant.
Married to Welsh actress Sian Phillips in 1960, the couple had two daughters before divorcing nineteen years later. He also has a son, Lorcan with an ex-girlfriend.
Ill health has affected O’Toole’s career somewhat with heavy drinking and stomach cancer both reported to have caused major gaps in his CV.
