The National Movie Awards
Brits win big at movie awards - Sept 29 2007
The first National Movie Awards proved to be good news for homegrown talent, with Brits dominating the gongs.
Casino Royale, the latest Bond adventure, starring Daniel Craig, won best action/adventure movie, beating the likes of Die Hard 4.0 and Transformers.
The James Bond franchise also won the special recognition award at the event, which organisers hope will rival the Baftas as the UK’s premiere film awards ceremony.
Hot Fuzz beat Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, and Mr Bean’s Holiday to the best comedy title.
The Simpsons Movie won best animation, over rivals Shrek The Third, Happy Feet and Flushed Away.
Collecting the award for Hot Fuzz, Simon Pegg said it was a "complete joy" to win. Director Edgar Wright, joking about the TV phone votes scandal, said: "I think we actually did win. There would be a huge scandal about that if Borat had actually won.
"We try and make films that we would want to see."
The film’s co-star Nick Frost joked about the eating regime he undertook in preparation for the film.
"Simon had a trainer and I had a patisserie making me horns of cream.
"Everyone talks about the diet Simon went on. No one talks about my terrible diabetes which I got as a result of eating 50 cakes a day."
