Infernal – Ten Miles
Release date: Out now
Format: Single
Genre: Euro Pop
Our rating: 2/5
From the extremely unfortunate ‘From Paris to Berlin’, to this new release, it seems like Infernal may have grown up a little. They’ve still got the distance theme going on, but 10 Miles has a more introspective feel.
The strong vocals by Lina Rafn save the samey track, with a lot more feeling than last time. It’s a lot more passable, but stays in the safe zone in terms of production.
This Euro Pop with meaning is nothing out of the ordinary, but is bound to be popular with fans - joining the hall of fame with Aqua, Vengaboys and the originals Roxette!

Press release:
The Infernal success story rolls on - the Danish duo saw their album ‘From Paris To Berlin’ smash into the UK Top 40, firmly establishing them one of the few credible pop acts to come out of Europe in recent years. They’ve sold millions of records worldwide, made regular assaults on the UK charts, including peaking at #2 with their huge selling hit single ‘From Paris To Berlin’ and now, after public demand, are releasing the fan’s favourite track, ‘Ten Miles’.
Introspective, emotionally charged and quite simply, a beautiful song, ‘Ten Miles’ demonstrates a different side to Infernal; a grown up sound that could stand shoulder to shoulder with bands such as Texas or The Cardigans. As we’ve come to expect from Infernal, it’s still laden with hooks and perfectly produced by Paw and Lina, but ‘Ten Miles’ transcends the obvious pop record as it laments the failing of a relationship. There can be few vocalists who can express the emotion of this situation like Lina Rafn. As the story unfolds and the protagonists begin to drift apart within their relationships, Paw’s melancholy piano riff and Lina’s heartfelt vulnerability consistently send shivers down your spine.
The video for ‘Ten Miles’ was shot in Miami and charts the disintegration of two relationships as Paw and Lina prove themselves talented actors as well as musicians. Often shot in the shadows and with overtones reflecting the demise of a relationship, this is a story that most people can relate to at some point in their lives. The video is interspersed with a powerful live performance against the stunning backdrop of sunset on Miami Beach. If this is throwaway pop then it’s time to re-assess the genres that are so often clumsily attributed to performers like Infernal.
For those who have been hibernating for the last few years, Infernal are the perfectly formed, Paw Lagermann and the equally gorgeous, gutsy vocalist, Lina Rafn. They are single handedly putting Denmark back on the international music map. If you’ve never heard an Infernal track before, prepare to hear perfectly produced pop you can dance to, full of hooks to entice you to the dancefloor alongside powerful and often poignant vocals.
Infernal are a world class act; live, recorded or on video. Together with the ever dependable Europa Records, they are redefining the parameters of pop. ‘Ten Miles’ shows yet another string to the Infernal bow as they deliver a song sure to delight their ever growing legion of fans.
