The Indelicates – Julia We Don’t Live In The 60’s
Release date: 02 July 2007
Format: Single
Genre: Indie Pop
Our Rating: 2/5
An interesting melodic song which shows promise for a band that formed in 2005. The two main singers share a passion for poetry and you can tell as the lyrics ooze wit and charm. ‘Julia We Don’t Live In The 60’s’ combines his and her vocals with his guitar and her piano and the other three band members drums, bass and rhythm guitar.

Information: Finally it’s here, the long awaited 3rd single from Brighton’s own. The Indelicates “Julia, We Don’t Live In The 60’s” Released by Weekender Records as a limited edition 7” single (1000) and CD (500) and produced by Brian O’Shaughnessy (Primal Scream, Misty’s Big Adventure, My Bloody Valentine). This record – (like it’s sold out predecessors) – promises to amaze.
The Indelicates formed in late 2005. Essentially the joint project of Simon and Julia Indelicate (guitar/vox and piano/vox respectively) they recruited Ed Van Beinum (drums/occasional production), Kate Newberry (bass) and Alastair Clayton (rhythm guitar) to provide a backing for their wistfully cynical tirades against the condition of their disappointing generation.
Their first single ‘We Hate The Kids’ and second ‘The Last Significant Statement To Be Made In Rock ‘n’ Roll’ were released on Sad Gnome Records which was formed by a small consortium of the band’s fans, specifically to release their debut singles. Jointly produced by Keith Totp (Art Brut) and Les Carter (late of Carter USM) the hugely well received singles quickly sold out their limited runs.
As the lyrics show quite remarkably, The Indelicates gives voice to two formidable young poets. Simon and Julia actually met at a poetry slam (which he won). Simon Indelicate was a performance poet and songwriter for several years before forming the band. In that capacity he performed at the Glastonbury festival and in the grounds of Hastings Castle and supported such specialist celebrities as Murray Lachlan Young and John Cooper Clark.
Also a regular on the Brighton Literary Scene Julia Indelicate formed 60’s girl-band tribute act The Pipettes in late 2003 and left in early 2005. At the same time, she has continued her work as a documentary photographer.
The video of the single includes appearance from the legend that is Eddie Argos (Art Brut), Jim Rhesus (Subliminal Girls) and Keith Totp, see myspace for details on where to see it…
