The Killers meets Paul Weller! This Chicagoan four – Darren Spitzer (singer/guitar,) Dave Rothblatt (guitar/vocals /songwriter) Rob Kallick (bass) and Jonny Basofin (drums) – are destined for big, big things. The band is tight and the music is both mature and exciting. For a relatively new band (they formed in 2002) they sound established, but without any of the self-absorbed, navel-gazing introspection that comes with having been around the music industry block too many times. Fresh and thrilling, I didn’t want Her, You and I to end, so was thrilled that the crescendo kept building. Such a Scene carries the best vestiges of the eighties while thoroughly updating the sound for the 21st century. Upbeat, melodic, feel-good, impossible-to-keep-still-to, indie.
