Skunk
Anansie Split |

The multi platinum selling band Skunk Anansie have
split up. The band decided that they had taken Skunk Anansie as
far as they could and that now the time is right to pursue solo
careers. This has been a mutual decision and the band remain the
best of friends.
Skunk Anansie formed in 1994 and released three hugely successful
albums, Paranoid & Sunburnt (1995), Stoosh (1996) and Post Orgasmic
Chill (1999). In total they have sold four million albums worldwide
and notched up eight hit singles.
Skin and Ace are both currently working on solo albums, Cass is
concentrating on careers in photography and music, while Mark has
acted in a short film and also continues to pursue music.
Skin's album is due for release early in 2002.

Hooj
Choons on the Move |

The geezers from respected dance label Hooj Choons
have enjoyed a fantastic 18 months staging monthly Elements events
at the Electrowerkz (a warehouse in Islington), and collecting some
spectacular press along the way for the back to basics vibe and
spot on music policy (tribal / techy / deep house), Elements have
just announced they are moving their weekly (Fridays) club shebang
to the OneFourFour club on Charing Cross Road.
The opening night on Friday 4th May, (Bank Holiday weekend) will
feature Red Jerry, Slacker, Circulation, Bill Brewster, Clive Henry
(Peace Division) and Charles Webster.

Da Silva Remixes Jennifer Lopez |

Rui Da Silva, who had a huge hit with
his single "Touch Me" earlier this year, has remixed Jennifer Lopez's
new single "Play" for the American single release. By Rui's own admission,
"It‚s one for the drag queens. It makes her sound like a man!". J-Lo
has approved the remix, Tenaglia loves it and it will be forthcoming
imminently. Rui's label Kismet has their new CocoDaSilva track "Saudade‚
primed for release in the middle of May. |

2001 Awards Nominations |

The British dance music media gathered together
at London club venue The End this week (April 24) as the nominations
for DanceStar 2001 - The Tiscali World Dance Music Awards were announced.
Amongst this year's nominations are big beat producer Fatboy Slim
and French house pioneers Daft Punk with five nominations each,
dance diva Sonique and Positiva act Spiller featuring Sophie Ellis
Bextor who both appear in four categories and German producer/DJ
Timo Maas who appears in three.
This year's awards will be hosted by Scottish TV presenter Gail
Porter, British DJ Brandon Block and U.S. DJ/producer Erick Morillo.
Already confirmed to perform at the June 6 ceremony at London's
Alexandra Palace are: Faithless, Jakatta aka Joey Negro and Go Beat's
biggest U.K. garage success story, The Architects. The show will
be broadcast on Channel 4 on June 8 at 11.30pm.
Over 2000 people attended the first DanceStar ceremony on June 1
2000 -- the performers included Moby, Chicane featuring Bryan Adams
and Artful Dodger. The Chemical Brothers, William Orbit and David
Morales were amongst the winners.
The DanceStar awards were set up to recognise the impact of dance
music world-wide. The nominees are selected by an industry academy
of 2000 members from countries including: U.K, U.S., France, Germany,
Italy and Holland and the winners are then voted for by the public.
Last year www.dancestar.net their official web site received over
250,000 public votes, their target this year is one million.
