Madonna
in Kensington - 04/07/01 |
|
Madonna arrives in Earl's Court tonight with speculation
rife that after her Drowned World Tour finishes she may never tour
again. However never say never when each of the 48 shows on the
tour will each reputedly make her £1 million, that's £48 million
in total if you need a calculator. The press never tires of calling
her 'the ultimate Material Girl' (yawn).

Roof Gardens Re-open - 15/06/01 |
|
One
of London's most incredible party venues was the scene for a huge
"Richard Branson" bash last night high above the rooftops of Kensington.
After weeks of delays to the £5 million refurbishment the Kensington
Roof Gardens - that infamous private members club that most of us
can only dream about having access to on those rare balmy London
evenings - has reopened after huge refit.

Basement Jaxx New Album-Rooty |
|
The wait is finally over! It's been two years since
Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Buxton of Basement Jaxx released their
genre-busting hit debut album 'Remedy' and exposed us all to a sound
quite unlike anything on Earth.
On June 26 its follow-up 'Rooty' touches down and
the boys are better than ever. Named after the underground parties
the pair have been throwing in a spit 'n'sawdust sarf London pub,
Rooty cuts up the rulebook. Blending abstract bleeps, garage, punk-funk
and Tijuana brass, Rooty produces what could be the most accomplished
album of the year. We have a copy of 'Rooty' here at MyVillage.
To win it, just answer this simply question.

Is
this the end of the road for Steps? |
|
Jigging popsters Steps release another single from
their phenomenally successful third LP Buzz. The band, who
appear to have sacked their over-zealous stylist and gone for a
more subdued 'Melrose Place' look release the double-sided single
'Here and Now/You'll be Sorry'on May 28th.
This coincides with news that the band has set dates
for a UK winter tour. This news does little to scotch rumours that
the band are to split after the tour has finished. Their Gold tour
also coincides with the release of a greatest hits compilation.

Brandy
pays tribute to..erm Phil Collins |
|
Honey-voiced teen diva Brandy teams up with rapper
R-J on a cover of Phil Collins' MOR dinosaur 'Another Day in Paradise',
released on June 4th. The song taken from the soon to be released
album 'Urban Renewal', features hip hop's royalty (for some bizarre
reason) paying homage to the former Genesis frontman. Highlights
of the album include ODB's radical reworking of 'Sussudio' and Lil'
Kim bringing her sleazy charms to 'In The Air Tonight'.
This single marks yet another chapter in Brandy's
career, barely in her twenties and already a showbiz veteran. She
released her first single at the age of 11 and hit the Billboard
Top Ten at 15, notching up two hit TV shows and two hit films along
the way. Brandy shot to household fame on this side of the pond
with the Grammy winning Monica collaboration 'The Boy is mine'.
Phil Collins (who's been mercifully absent from
the pop scene of late) is delighted with this new interpretation
of his hit song: "It seems almost unfair that I'll have my name
on this song as a writer, because it really has taken on a life
of its own", says a cooing Collins.

Tricky's
joint venture |
|
West Country trip-hop pioneer Tricky is back with
a brand new single and album. The single 'Evolution, Revolution,
Love' is released on June 18th. It will be the first track taken
from his 'comeback' album Blowback - which is released on June 25th.
The new material marks a return to accessible form for Tricky after
a prolonged illness and features collaborations with Red Hot Chilli
Peppers, Alanis Morissette, Cyndi Lauper and Ambersunshower among
others.
Blowback is also the most commercial record Tricky
has made to date and by his own admission should have been the follow
up to 1995's acclaimed Maxinquaye. Tricky said: "All my other albums
since Maxinquaye were saying 'f*** you'. I was making records deliberately
so they wouldn't get on the radio."
"It was 'f*** everything - whatever you like, I'm
going to make the opposite kind of album'." Everything is very different
with Blowback though. Tricky said: "I want this album to be on the
radio. I want to be on MTV and VH1. My life's changed for the better.
"The paranoia has gone. I've got my energy back and this album is
about opening up and communicating with people again."
Tricky was diagnosed with a rare disease that meant
some foods were destroying his immune system and affecting him psychologically.
A strictly adhered to change of diet corrected the hormonal imbalance
and led to Tricky's recovery. The rapper/instrumentalist, who came
to the public's attention as guest vocalist on Massive Attack's
classic Blue Lines, said: "It's astonishing how dark your life can
get without you even noticing.
"It slips further and further away. You think it's
just stress so you push on. And that gets you into even worse situations
and you slide further. I needed help." Looking back on his recovery
Tricky added: "My life has gone full circle. I had a lot of problems
- depression, mood swings, and temper tantrums. "Someone would get
my room service order wrong and I'd smash the room up. "I've had
a mad couple of years and the people around me have found it very
difficult. "But I've finally got my life back and that's what Blowback
is all about."
Blowback is released by Anti Inc. on June 25th.
It will be preceded by the single Evolution, Revolution, Love, which
is out on June 18th.
