Like the way they serve tea here. It comes in one of those little cast iron teapots, with the relief pattern all over. Very original. Decor is a bit bland though, it feels like an airport. It is a good stopping point on your journey through Barkers though.

Perhaps the place is designed for gentile Kensington ladies. I prefer to go somewhere that's a bit more atmospheric and bustling.

If your mother comes to visit, take her here, she'll love it. Afternoon tea here is brilliant. It is expensive, but who cares when the surroundings are like this. It's a real Kensington location.

Best cakes in London, by my humble estimation.

Visited Scoffs on Kensington High Street, before going to see a film on Saturday and I want to tell you Kensington people that you mustn't miss the decor. It's like some kind of acid flashback. Somewhere between a ski chalet circa 1966, a forgotten rural junk shop, a scuzzy pub and a torture chamber, it's the land that time forgot.

Highlights include a whole zoo's worth of stuffed wildlife and birds (the black furry boar's head being a particular favourite), the varnished wooden chalet tables which must have seemed a good idea 30 years ago - can't quite put my finger on what is so weird about them but there's definately something ... the panelled walls, the upholstered ceilings. The claustrophobia of it is positively exhilerating in a Jean-Paul Satre kinda-way.

The food was OK in a Stockpot style, roast dinners with all the trimmings and pasta dishes, and the service was fine, but its hard to concentrate on anything such is the sensory overload of the surroundings. It honestly felt haunted to me It was on my mind for hours. Its a winner, a local treasure. Don't miss, because it can't stay that way for much longer.

I have been going to the Troubadour since 1987 and I have had very fond memories of it - it was truly eccentric and its ambience was truly special - to have retained its magic for so many years is a rare feat for a cafe in London. Unfortunately, the management have thought fit to expand the premises and although it has been very nicely decorated, it appears to have lost its soul. I do hope that my view changes as it is early days and maybe more can be done to bring back the magic.

This place is an institution round here. If you haven't checked it out yet, do. The eccentric decor, with old coffeepots in the window and bizarre stuff all over the walls is really worth seeing. I've been to a poetry reading here which was good fun, believe it or not. Food is good but nothing special.

One thing that bugs me here is the fact that they seem to play the same Brandenburg Concerto over the stereo whenever I turn up. A few times was OK, but now I've had enough.
