I'm an addict.
I didn't know it, but I am.
Not to nicotine (any longer), or any other legal (or illegal) drug, but to Sainsburys American Chocolate Chip Cookies.
I am a firm believer that a little extra padding is imperative when breastfeeding, but I think that I have long since expanded past that excuse. I have taken some minor steps towards redeeming my figure - after the charming sales pitch last month by Dale at Holmes Place I have not only joined, but actually used the gym. (And not just the steam room I promise!) Unfortunately, as the experts say, it is only an increase in exercise and a decrease of calories that will allow for weight loss. So it is time for me to face facts and bite the bullet - no more cookies! For that matter, not much of anything yummy.
Consequently I am spending today not scouring the local Sainsburys and deli's for delightful treats, but instead suffering painful withdrawal symptoms after deciding after much deliberation that I was desperate enough to try a Fad Diet. Yup, that's right, after years of telling my friends and clients that fad diets are unhealthy and unfounded, I have become a whole hearted convert to the thought of losing a stone in a week. Just don't tell my Mum.
After doing a bit of research, it seems that the quickest and most effective diet on the market is Dr. Atkin's New Diet Revolution, which, like the The Zone Diet promotes low carbohydrates as a form of weight loss and maintenance. Dr. Atkin had my favour simply due to two converts preaching the success they had had.
I was definitely fascinated by Eat Right 4 Your Type which endorses a diet tailored to your blood type. Except, not only do you need to know your basic ABO blood group for this diet, but also your 'sector status', which requires a trip to your GP. Although I am sure it is an effective and scientifically viable theory, it was a little too fiddly for my liking.
What I definitely want to avoid is the The Holy Slimmer Gwen Shamblin, a cult American figure who promotes 'A Diet Made in Heaven' which offers, amongst other things dramatic weight- loss, an unlimited menu and eternal life. Her "Slim for Him" workshops are not run in the UK yet, and I thank the Lord for it. If you are interested however, check out her book, Rise Above, God Can Set You Free From Your Weight Problems Forever. If the Lord was a kinder person I would be checked into The Grove on Kensington Church St. for an intensive detox programme. That is the healthy way to lose weight in a hurry - they understand the pressure, offer daily support in a myriad of ways and let you function, just about, in the real world.
Unfortunately I am suffering on my own with only a weekly personal trainer, a book and a local gym to get me beautiful by next week. If I see you at the local deli you'll see the results, should there be results to see. Otherwise, I will be sure to let you know next month.
