Malabar combines high quality ingredients with fresh herbs, and whole spices to create a menu that mixes the best of traditional cooking from the sub-continent with more innovative dishes.
Signature dishes include, charcoal-grilled chicken livers, served on a sizzler, venison, marinated in tamarind, and cooked in the tandoor. We serve banana and pumpkin as vegetables and these have proved two of our most popular dishes.
Malabar's aim is to prepare our food in a fresher, lighter way.
Artificial food colourings are never added to Malabar dishes. Their food is served on metalthalis, a traditional way of presenting food in many parts of India. It provides a more authentic experience of eating Indian.
Indian food may seem to be very complicated. This need not be the case. Often it is the bewildering variety of spices, and their unfamiliar names that can scare off the potential cook.
You may be surprised at how many herbs and spices you have in your own cupboard that form the basics of Indian cooking: cumin, fennel seeds, cloves, bay leaves, lovage, cinnamon, turmeric, and mint.
Spices are the central part of any Indian dish. Some are ground finely, others are thrown in whole so they explode in the mouth, some are toasted to draw out their oils and a few are even burnt. The herbs and spices we use are a wonderfully diverse source of flavours, textures and colour with medicinal qualities to boot.

""Malabar used to be terrific but last two times I went there it was really lousy..bland food, small portions and overpriced. I shan't be going back.""

""Have been going to Malabar for several years now & it's always a treat. Service the last few times was extremely friendly & efficient/in-obtrusive, food is beautifully spiced - it is miles above your "regular curry" place, flavours are very subtle, & main courses are nicely presented in individual bowls on round platter. Decor is simple & elegant, nice if you want a more "sophisticated" setting for your curry. Must be in American guide books, as it seems suddenly to be very popular with our friends from across the pond...""
